Introduction: Ease-it is a business simulation ‘game’ which is played typically by 12 participants under the guidance of experienced trainers. Participants work in a variety of (3 to 5) rounds, each with its own results and experiences. These results and experiences give cause for reflection and input for the next round. The experiences are also interspersed with the theory. In developing the Ease-it simulation, a layered approach was taken with tasks for participants, problems experienced by participants and solutions participants can experiment with. This layered structure results in flexible simulations and enables each simulation to meet the specific requirements of the client and the participants. Results: Ease-it demonstrates the results of implementing result-oriented and process-oriented work and the subsequent problems which may arise. Subjects dealt with include customer-orientation, result- orientation, coordination with the client organization and cost awareness.
Why Business Simulation: The power of simulation is utilized and endorsed by business and science. Confucius once said “I hear and I forget, I see and I remember, I do and I understand”. Through business simulation games, the latter is central i.e. understanding through doing. A simulation game provides the opportunity to experience and test abstract ideas about organizational change. Business simulation is the perfect tool to test intended changes, present corporate policies in a more effective manner and actively involve employees or colleagues in the change process. In a short time it is possible achieve more than through a long period of meetings, convincing and memo writing. The Ease-it game simulations emphasize hands-on experience and experimentation. Through the business simulations, participants experience realistic problems (both corporate and professional) from their own working environment but away from their day to day routine and any distractions. This provides participants with a safe learning environment in which to freely experiment with new ideas and solutions. Simulations rely on the expertise and competencies of participants. Participation in Ease-it is a great motivator. Employees feel actively involved in change, better understand and appreciate the need for change and develop opportunities to realize change.
